About Us

Who We Are

The Clatsop County Sheriff's Office is a values driven law enforcement agency consisting of more than 80 dedicated deputy sheriffs and staff in five functional divisions.  We are committed to building and maintaining a reputation as qualified, trusted and innovative in fullfillment of our duties.

The Enforcement Division primarily provides law enforcement services in the unincorporated areas of Clatsop County and provides reglar assistance to all the municipal agencies and Oregon State Police.  In addittion to patrol, investigation and crime prevention efforts, the enforcement division provides specialized services such as service of civil and court processes,  marine patrol, forest patrol, detectives, search and rescue, high angle rescue and underwater recovery.

The Corrections Division runs and operates the the county jail.  The current jail, capped at 60 beds, serves a year around population of 39,000, which balloons in excess of 100,000 during peak summer months.  The county is currently in the process of building a new jail in Warrenton at the site of the former Oregon Youth Authority facility.  In addition to primary duties of operating the jail, corrections deputies transport inmates across this state and others and provide court security.

The Community Corrections Division provides community based supervision for clients who might otherwise be incarcerated or in the community with limited access to resources and a lack of accountability.  Community Corrections provides a platform for positive change while supporting public safety through accountability and enforcement standards.

The Support Division assists all divisions of the Sheriff's Office by greeting the public, completing processes, accounting and maintaining records.  Support staff process concealed handgun licenses, civil papers, judicial forclosure sales, writs of execution, police reports and evidence.  They work closely with the courts, District Attorney's Office, and other law enforcement partners to accomplish these tasks.

The Animal Control Division provides animal services in the unincorporated areas of Clatsop County and operates the county animal shelter.  Animal Control deputies routinely assist municipal agencies and the State Police with animal issues.  The shelter has the largest volunteer base in the county to assist with the care and welfare of the animals.
