Free Event Takes Leftover Paint for Recycling

(Astoria, OR) — Clatsop County residents can drop off leftover paint for recycling from 9 a.m. – Noon Saturday, June 24, at Jewell School in an event sponsored by PaintCare, a nonprofit organization.

Space is limited so individuals are encouraged to register online.

Paint in good condition will be made immediately available to the public for free at this event.

Households may bring any amount of paint, stain, and/or varnish. Limits may apply to businesses.

PaintCare will accept unwanted latex or oil-based house paint and primers, stains, deck and concrete sealers, and clear finishes such as varnish and shellac. Paint must be in sealed, original containers with the original manufacturer label. 

PaintCare will not accept leaking, unlabeled, or empty containers; aerosol spray paints; drums or containers larger than five gallons; hazardous waste or other chemicals, such as paint thinner, solvents, motor oil, spackle, glue, adhesive, roofing tar, pesticides, or cleaning chemicals.

Businesses may use PaintCare drop-off sites and events for oil-based paint, a business must qualify as an exempt generator under federal and any similar state hazardous waste generator rules. Please visit PaintCare for information on exempt generator rules.

Jewell School is located at 83874 OR 103 in Seaside.

Clatsop County residents may take advantage of free paint recycling year-round at permanent PaintCare drop-off locations. Clatsop County accepts paint at the recurring Household Hazardous Waste Saturday events 8 times per year.
