Clatsop County Commissioner Lianne Thompson was confirmed today by the Oregon State Senate to serve on the Oregon Land Conservation and Development Commission.

“I am humbled and honored to have been appointed by Governor Kotek and will diligently work to ensure Coastal communities have a strong voice,” Thompson said. “The governor has a goal of creating 360,000 new housing units in the next 10 years and we need to figure out how we can do that and ensure our economy and environment thrive,” she said.

The LCDC adopts state land-use goals and implements rules, assures local plan compliance with the goals, coordinates state and local planning, and oversees the coastal zone management program.

“The Commission will be grappling with sensitive issues, and my pragmatic, collaborative, and respectful approach will help our state move forward,” Thompson said.

The seven commissioners are unpaid citizen volunteers appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. Commissioners are appointed to four-year terms and may serve for two full terms.

Thompson was first elected to the Clatsop County Board of Commissioners in 2014 and her current term of office representing District 5 expires in December 2026. She previously served on the Clatsop County Planning Commission.
