Burn Ban Lifted in Clatsop County

The Oregon Department of Forestry has declared fire season will end 1 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, and the Clatsop County Fire Defense Board recently voted to lift burn ban restrictions at the same time.

“Although this is good news, all of Clatsop County remains in drought conditions, with 62% in severe drought and 38% in extreme drought,” said Clatsop County Emergency Management Director Justin Gibbs. “That means we still need to be vigilant when burning.”

Individuals living within a fire district must contact their local fire department to inquire about burn permits.

Slash burning requires a permit, however, permit holders are encouraged to monitor weather forecast for unfavorable conditions and contact ODF before starting a burn.

ODF encourages everyone to be safe with fire in the forest. Recreationists must extinguish campfires with water and stir with a shovel until cool to the touch before leaving the area.

“We thank our local fire services and the Oregon Department of Forestry for their diligence in keeping our communities safe,” Gibbs.
