Public Health Services and Programs

Clatsop County Public Health Department’s core functions are to assess, preserve, promote, and protect the health and wellness of all our residents. We provide a comprehensive system of care, ranging from advocacy and education to clinics. Our goal is to enhance the health of our community through various programs and services.

We work with a variety of community partners to continually assess and improve the health of our citizens and the wellness of our surrounding communities. All our services are confidential. We will not release any information about you without your written permission, except as required by law. It is our goal to provide you with the highest quality public health services and to earn your trust.

Immunizations

Children, teens, adults

Reproductive Health

Birth control for women and teens as well as emergency contraception, testing for infections, pregnancy testing, health education, and referrals. Male options such as condoms or vasectomy referrals are also available.  These services are low-cost to individuals who meet income eligibility.

Communicable Disease Control

Investigation, screening, and control of diseases that endanger the health of the community.

Environmental Health

Inspections and enforcement of standards for food service, water purity, child daycare facilities, traveler accommodations, and certain public recreation facilities.

Health Promotion

 

HIV Counseling and Testing

Confidential HIV testing, counseling, and referrals.

Sexually Transmitted Infections

Confidential testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases including HIV.

Health Information Referral and Outreach

Public health nurses are available to answer your health questions and concerns.

Maternal Child Health

Nursing services that promote the health of pregnant women, their babies, and children.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

Nutrition education and supplemental food assistance to promote good health for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants, and children to age 5.

Babies First!

The public health nurse monitors your baby’s growth, development, and health and advises you about nutrition, immunizations, and learning opportunities. The nurse also refers you to programs and services that can help you. Babies First! is open to families with children from birth to 36 months old, regardless of income.

CaCoon (Care Coordination)

The public health nurse provides services to children with special health needs from birth to 21 years old. The service is available to families regardless of income. The nurse makes home visits and reports findings to the child’s primary doctor and specialists. The nurse works with your family’s physician and other services to assist you with learning about your child’s health and finding out about community resources to meet their health and medical needs.

Birth certificates up to six months after the event.

Public events for the public are held on specific dates or for businesses by appointment.

The Clatsop County Household Hazardous Waste Program offers free disposal of toxic, flammable, and corrosive materials at collection events for the public on specific dates or for businesses by appointment only.
